Every year we help a large number of our clients complete their self assessment tax returns.

HMRC send out self assessment returns in April each year to those individuals registered as self-employed including partnerships, or who receive income and or gains that are not taxed through the PAYE system.

The Returns cover the tax year ending on the 5th April. There are penalties for late submission. The current submission deadlines are:

  • For the submission of hard copy returns, midnight of the following 31st October
  • For online submission, 31st January of the following year unless you owe less than £2,000 tax and want HMRC to collect it through adjustment to your tax code when the deadline is shortened to 31st December.

Getting your return in promptly avoids any possibility of penalties and also allows you time to put aside the tax which has to be paid on 31st January.

Our work includes:

  • Completing the Self Assessment Tax Return along with any supplementary pages
  • Ensuring you take advantage of all available reliefs
  • Calculating and advising on tax payable along with future payments on account
  • Submitting to HMRC on your behalf
  • Dealing with HMRC enquiries on your behalf

Notifying HMRC of a new self-employed business:

The rules at present require any new self-employed business to register within 3 months from the end of the month in which your business commenced. There is a fine of £100 for late notification.
